Palio Horse Race, Siena

Photograph by Andrea Guarneri

One year of hopes, no more than ninety seconds to make the dream come true. Ten jockeys, dressed in the representative colors of their contrade, riding bareback on magnificent horses, while citizens on the bleachers scream with pride. They circle the Piazza del Campo three times to win the Palio. A whirlwind of feelings, colors, and flags creates this magical atmosphere, wherein people crowded in the square can only use their arms as telescopes to see the horses ride by their camera shot. I panned the camera with the moving horses and jockeys so that they remained sharp. Because in those seconds, they are all there is.
