This photo was taken on the ferry that goes to Mrauk U, a small village in eastern Myanmar (Burma). Using a slow boat is the only way to reach the ancient Burmese capital. This man is the cook on board. On the way back, I saw him making the same dish, with the same ingredients, again. I wondered how many times he d done it before

What Makes This a Photo of the Day? I love photographs that give me the opportunity to put visual clues together to get a sense of a culture. The overhead angle allows me to really see what this man s work is about, including the ingredients he s working with.
